Personal Statement
I was born in Cyprus, a tropical island but moved to New York at 7 years old which was a chance to enrich my cultural knowledge in a different country. I learnt English as my third fluent language after Greek and Portuguese since my mother is from Brazil. I returned to Cyprus at 14 where I played beach volleyball just for fun. Little did i know I would quickly fall in love with the sport. I met so many amazing players from all over the world and had amazing opportunities.
I joined a travel team immediately since my coach saw potential in my tenacious, strong-willed personality and eagerness to learn. I currently play at Lemesos Volleyball Club under U18 and Womens first division category.
I also play for The Grammar School, where we got 6th place worldwide in Brazil after winning the finals in our country (I especially loved Brazil since half of my family was already there and I spoke the language). I met players from all over the world! I would love to study in America because it feels like a partial home to me which i have familiarized.
Since I was small, I’ve longed to find a sport which fit my personality for as long as I could remember. For me, volleyball isn’t a sport, it’s a lifestyle. I would do anything to accomplish my dream of playing college volleyball while also perusing my future career in astrophysics.
