Personal Statement
Ever since I was younger, I always wanted to be in the field of medicine. I went through several phases to attempt and figure out what in the medical field I wanted to become. A nurse? A dentist? A pediatric surgeon? Still to this day I am unsure, although I do know for sure that I want it to be incorporated in medicine, and the act of treating people and making them better. I grew up in Haiti, which is where I still am now. If you have every visited Haiti, the first thing that may come to the eye is the hundreds of less fortunate people that live on the street in absolute filth. With years of growing up, and realizing just how grave the situations have become here, is why I chose what I chose. Even though I plan to work in. the states, I want to be able to internationally somehow help Haiti in areas such as hygiene, but also just helping Haiti to become the best version of itself that it ma be.
As for volleyball, in a country like this, like many others, they are constant daily situations that cause mounds of stress on just about anyone. Manifestations, burning down schools, home invasions, kidnapping, murders, Haiti has seen it all. During these past 2 years, these issues have spiraled further and further, to the point where us children have to stay at home for months due to possibility of getting stopped by men with guns or even worse, killed, just trying to go to school. The way that I found my on sense of comfort in times like this was getting more headstrong into volleyball. Focusing on physically bettering myself for helped not only in my physique of a player, but also improved my state of mind. Volleyball has kept me grounded amidst all this chaos, which has caused to me grow a deep profound love for the sport and just being a better player all in all.
