Personal Statement
I am an Libero for Defensa Volleyball Club in Burlington, Ontario. I have been playing volleyball for seven years. As a player I would describe myself as a leader who is relentless, supportive, positive, and driven.
Growing up, I have always excelled in a team environment. Being in a team taught me how to hold myself and others accountable, whether it’s in a drill or a game you can always depend on your teammates to give you 100%. In partnerships, my main goal is to push whoever I’m working with to their full potential. In my mind, being partners with someone different is always important and makes you adapt to other personalities and skill levels.
The biggest highlight of my volleyball career was being named captain of my club team for the third time. I am very grateful for the support of my coaches and teammates and look to lead by example every time I step on the court. I know that being a leader requires responsibility and hard work, which I look to continue through my club and post secondary career.
In school, I play for my senior volleyball, coed volleyball, beach volleyball, and the ultimate frisbee team. I enjoy competitively working with my classmates outside the club environment because it provides a good balance from daily training.
Outside of sports, my favorite thing to do is give back to the community. I really enjoy volunteer work and am constantly looking for somewhere new to involve myself. Through this past year I volunteered for Volleygirls development program for girls ages 6-10, the Defensa 14U girls team, the Salvation Army, and worked with my school board (the HWDSB) to provide summer programs for kids across Hamilton. I have over 110 hours to date.
I am looking to study Bachelor of Science with focus on Nutrition through post secondary and would love to find a place for me to excel academically and athletically. In my future, I see myself opening an athletic recovery center for athletes.
