Personal Statement
My name is Abby Holland and I am a junior at the American School of the Hague.
I was born and lived the first eight years of my life in the state of Maryland. I then moved to Kansas for my dad's job, where I discovered my passion for volleyball. I played for PVA, a local club in 5th and 6th grade. I was then privileged with the opportunity to move to the Netherlands again for my dad's job. I joined the High School Junior Varsity team in 7th grade as the level of volleyball was different in the two locations. I was a setter on this team and earned the Most Promising Player Award. In eighth grade I made Varsity and have been playing on the team since. In my freshman year, I received the All Tournament Award as an outside hitter. In my sophomore year, I received the All Tournament Award as a middle hitter. This year, my junior year, I have received the All-Star Award at my Early Bird Tournament as well as the All Tournament Player at my ISSTS final tournament. Playing overseas has taught me a lot about working with new people and being adaptable, as being at an international school we often have move-ins, resulting in our team being relatively new each year. Academic-wise, I challenge myself by taking AP and IB courses as well as Honors Courses while juggling sports. I'm shooting to play volleyball in college!
