Personal Statement
My name is Vanja Peric and my goal is to develop myself both as a person and a player. I believe that being an international student-athlete in USA college will help me to achieve that, because I will broaden my horizons. Being that far away from home would definitely be a challenge, but I am very excited because studying abroad as an student-athlete is the kind of the opportunity you get once in a lifetime.
Throughout my career, I have mostly played all around. My primary position is an outside hitter, but I also have experience in playing the libero. As an athlete I take a lot of pride in being a dominant receiver and defensive player, but I am also a vocal leader on the court. I love to get my team fired up and rally players when they are down. My teammates often ask me how come that I always have so much energy. I suppose the only right answer is that the love for the game and that feeling when the whole team is celebrating the win keep me going.
In the classroom, I am just as intense. My GPA is 4,9/5,0. I am very proud of this accomplishment, especially given the difficulty of our school system that is not so suitable for the athletes. I would love the opportunity to study and play volleyball at the same time. For me, the best feeling of an accomplishment and pride comes when you outdo yourself, not because you are not good enough, but because you want to be even better. That is the thing that I am willing to do as the student-athlete in college.
