Hello,
My name is Jaazaniah Calvert. Growing up since the age of 11 I've always wanted to play college volleyball. I've always wondered what it would be like meeting teammates, that you have no clue of who they are or where they come from and seeing how far I can go with my volleyball career. That's what I think is so beautiful about the college experience because it opens you up to new doors.
A little bit about me I grew up in a Military home, in Louisville, KY then moved to Georgetown, KY because of my dad's work. Due to that I lost all of my friends and had to be able to make new ones. It was hard but for the most part I adapted quickly. I feel like ever since that experience I would be able to be an addition to any team's roster because I am always willing to try new things and improve on any technique or skills on the court too. I am also a very coachable player, I am quick to make changes as needed by any coach in practice and in games.
My strong ethic of never quitting comes from my family because no matter how hard things were for my parents they were always able to keep going. According to that, my parents are who I look up to when I find things getting rough. I strive to be the best teammate my team can count on when they need it. No matter if it's on the court or off the court, and making sure all my teammates achieve their goals. By doing that I make sure my academics and athletic goals are always met.
I am quick on the court and I am very aggressive with the ball on and off the net. I am not the average height for my positions for some colleges but I work hard everyday to stand out to my own coaches and others. When I'm on the court I'm very aware of my surroundings but I always make sure I don't just play my position on the court, because as my coach says “Volleyball isn't a one person sport, it takes all six of us to be successful.”
As a student and athlete I always know there is room for improvement and success to be a better player, student, and teammate.
Respectfully,
Jaazaniah Calvert
