I started playing volleyball competitively in my freshman year. This is generally considered “late.” Over time, my love for the sport only grew. I began focusing all of my time and energy into volleyball. However, my sophomore year, I experienced a season ending shoulder injury that kept me from playing club. Instead of sitting around, I coached a recreational team for 9-12 year-olds while recovering. This allowed me to see the sport from a whole different facet and I began to think more critically about why I’m doing drills and motions. Now, I embody “eat, sleep, and breathe volleyball.” I study and stat every game that I play, I volunteer as a coach on the weekends, and I’m always training my game. I mentor the underclassmen at school and I work around 20hrs a week to pay for me to continue to play club. This year, I’m playing, assistant coaching, and refereeing to understand and appreciate every angle of the game. I don’t know where I’d be without volleyball, and my goal in life is to serve the Lord and give back to the sport that gave me hope and life.
Academically, I have a 31 on the ACT, have a 3.8 unweighted GPA, and am ranked 7th in my class of 165. I’ll also be graduating high school with around 40 hours of dual enrollment credit. I’m searching for a college that I feel will challenge me academically because I hope to pursue my masters of history. I would also like to attend a school that will grow and strengthen my faith in Christ; I want to walk with the Lord in all aspects of my life.
I was the captain of my high school team this season and act as a role model to all of the underclassmen. I was also named an all-district honorable mention for the 2023 season. I actively serve my community and have more than 175 service hours so far in high school. I hope to continue to play volleyball in college at a competitive level and grow as a coach and community member.
