My entire childhood I have learned from my parents that if you want something out of life you work hard and when you get to one goal you set another. Ever since I was able to run around, my dad has gone outside and shot hoops with me or played catch in the yard, so naturally I wanted to try every sport when school started! I remember hearing people say "can't wait to watch you in high school." Freshman year I started on varsity, it came with a lot of pressure, but I knew if I wanted to fulfill my childhood dream of playing in college I had to do what was necessary and even beyond. I push myself to the fullest extent, never thinking that I have reached my limits. I want to be the best no matter what amount of time or effort is needed.
Playing every sport became challenging when I got older, only because it meant I would have to choose. Currently, I am a freshman, Heptathlete at Michigan State University. I made the decision to run Track based on closeness to home and as a plan B, safe option. I tore my ACL a year ago playing basketball senior year and I guess you could say was afraid to take the risk. Now, I am fully confident after rehabbing and training. I miss my sport far too much, and often feel like I am missing out or messed up by not playing Volleyball. I realized, that it's never too late.
Getting older I these times in my life really do fly by and that "she's a freshman" cheer no longer applies to me. I set myself to a standard of just being an awesome role model and a well known member to my community both young and old. Sports teach a player a lot more than the game, they teach us how to enjoy life and what it takes to push ourselves.
I'm involved in a lot of camps as far as basketball and volleyball for younger girls, also volunteering for an education program in East Lansing, with a group of 6th graders. Being around kids a lot, you really realize the impact you have. It takes a great deal of responsibility to set a good example for them. I have been a captain the majority or my highschool career and leadership, and setting an example come natural. Volleyball is my passion, and I really want to fulfill my dream. If you are looking for a great well rounded competitive leader I am the player for you.
