UPDATE 4/14/15
I have been invited to play in the Mizuno USA/MIVCA All-Star Classic on Friday July 31, at the Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, Michigan. The tournament highlights the top senior athletes in Michigan for 2014.
Hello,
I am hoping to continue my Volleyball career in college, and want to compete with (and against) the best players possible. I am a very focused person, both academically and athletically, and understand how to give 100% of my mental and physical effort towards the task at hand. I give 100% effort at each practice and game and I want to play in a program that expects the same from all of its players.
Below is an e-mail my High School Coach wrote to a College Coach about me:
Hi Coach-
I coach at Laingsburg High School and have a senior setter that is interested in continuing her volleyball career. I'm confident that she would make a positive impact on your program and be a solid addition. In her three years as a varsity starter, she has been a model of what it means to be competitive and lead by example. Her composure on the court is unshakable. In addition to all the intangibles, she is a quick study and solid performer. Even if she never stepped on the court in a match for you, her attitude, work ethic and leadership would impact your program. However, I think given an opportunity, she would be a huge impact on your court, as well.
As a sophomore she set the school record for assists in a season and followed that up this year with the record for assists in a career. She was named All-Region, All-State and represented our Region as the only Class C player to receive those honors. She was also named the top player in our conference.
Alex set all around as a sophomore. However, when we graduated our seniors we discovered we needed her court sense and ball control in the front row as a hitter. She hit left or right side and set out of the back row last season and this year. While a new position, she excelled there, as well. She has solid all-around ball control skills as a setter and a hitter.
Alex hit .344 this season and delivered just over 5 assists per set in a 6-2 offense. In her off seasons, she played club for Attack and worked with Central Michigan University's setting coach. Her hands and footwork are technically solid and consistent.
She led us to a Conference Tournament Championship, a District Championship and a school record for wins in a season.
Alexis ended her senior season with the following stats:
Assists: 655 ( in a 6-2)
Kills: 217 with over a .300 hitting percentage (hit out or left or right front)
Serving: 67 aces jump serving at 93%
Receptions: passed 202 serve receive balls at 2.10
As a former DIV 1 volleyball player and a high school coach for 14 + years, I've recognized kids with potential in the past and helped a few kids go on to play at the next level. However, there isn't a kid that I would advocate more strongly for than Alex. I'm confident that her work ethic, skill set and mental capacities will be a positive for your program. I encourage you to take a look at her short highlight video. Please feel free to contact me with any question or for additional uncut game footage.
Thanks,
Tennille Whitmore
