My passion for volleyball started in middle school when my coach told me to “leave school volleyball behind” and find a travel team. I’m a coachable, versatile athlete and a quick learner. One example of my ability to learn quickly and excel was successfully changing from middle hitter after a few seasons to outside/right side positions. At my high school, I was a middle hitter and was awarded offensive player for the most kills and blocks. When club season started, I was asked to transition to outside/right side hitter positions. I pushed myself to learn the approaches, timing, etc., needed for the new positions and was named to the 2017 JVA Watch List as an outside hitter. This change in positions was challenging but showed me that I could grow as a player, be more versatile and help the teams I play for.
At the beginning of my 2017 high school season, I injured my non-hitting hand and had surgery on my pinky finger. This challenge made me more determined than ever to become a stronger player. During rehabilitation, I remained focused and worked one-on-one with a personal trainer to improve my cardio and strength training. I was cleared to play the last two weeks of the season and hit the court stronger than before. I played in 20 sets, during which my kill percentage was over 43 and my hitting percentage was over 27.
In 2018, I was recognized on the Under Armour High School All-America Watch List through my travel season and All-Conference Honorable Mention with my high school team. I finished my high school career with a history making accomplishment for my school - my team won the 2018 MHSAA Division 1 State Volleyball Champions (Michigan). As a student athlete, I was recruited by Michigan State University for their Women's Rowing Team. The MSU business program, the team culture and campus environment were very appealing to me. I also realized that being close to my family's home was a priority. In November of 2018, I committed to attend MSU and join the Women's Rowing team.
