Hi there!
I am a student athlete for Oxford High School who aspires to play at the highest levels in volleyball. My next step is to compete as a collegiate student athlete, and then hopefully in the Olympics representing my country. I have previously run track but my favorite sport is volleyball and that is where my passion to compete really comes alive. For the past three and a half years I have played and trained hard to improve my overall skills blocking, hitting, passing, receiving, and serving as a middle hitter. I regularly work out so I can further enhance my strength and improve my vertical jump too. Currently starting 2022 club season I am engaged in private lessons to further enhance my skills in these important facets of my game as I prepare for the upcoming Spring Tournament Season.
I enjoy several things outside of athletics to keep me moving toward my goal. I love to paint, draw, and create other types of art which allows my creative side to open up. I work very hard in school to maintain a high grade point average and I have been an A/B Honor student my whole life. As a Junior in high school I plan to work hard and continue to grow during this club season. Our high school team reached the state 6A finals after winning the North half state championship, and so the goal is to win it all this coming year. I work a lot with the upcoming players too, both at the middle school level and the incoming high school athletes to help them develop and hone their skills.
Dedication to my craft and being the best that I can be is important to me but so is enjoying the sport I love to play. It would not have the same meaning to just push myself as an athlete without being balanced as a person with the rest of my life. I have spent hours of community service with Assisted living communities both in Texas and Mississippi and as such was awarded a Presidential Award. It is rewarding when I can provide some enjoyment to those by simply drawing for them on the sidewalk outside their senior center when they were locked down for Covid or to come in after school and serve food for a social event with the residents and their families. I believe all of these experiences will make me into a more well rounded and motivated individual.
I am interested in an institution of higher learning that will give me the right balance of classroom challenges and athletic competition. I would prefer a university with a reputation for academic success, either in business or medicine, as I am leaning toward a career in either research, nursing, or advertising. This school should also provide the athletic environment that allows me the opportunity to showcase my talents and grow into a world class athlete. I would definitely like to think that I could make an immediate impact on the team, and provide the spark to lead them to the next level. While I like the feel of a small school atmosphere I am open to larger schools that have a personal approach to learning and tradition.
I look forward to this next chapter in my life as a student athlete.
Sincerely,
Torrey Tkach
