Hello, my name is Katie and I'm a 5'3 Defensive Specialist (primary) and OPP. In my freshman year, my school opened up a Volleyball team for the very first time. I joined toward the end of the freshman season because my Coach at that time needed more girls on the team. When I was first introduced to practices and game situations in the sport of Volleyball, I instantly fell in love with the sport and its' aspects. Once the freshman season was over, I began trying to discover ways to play in the off-season via clubs and travel teams. However, I live with my dad who is quite older - so traveling for travel Volleyball or going down to Southern Jersey for a club team was not in the cards considering his medical conditions. In this case, I would regularly practice beach volleyball during the summers. I stayed in shape in the off season as well as playing Basketball and Varsity Softball.
My sophomore season, I had no choice but to sit for the season as I needed to spend time recovering from a major tibial injury that took place in the June before sophomore year. Following this injury, I spent time in and out of physical therapy throughout my sophomore year. Moving forward, going into my Junior season was my "comeback" season, and I finished the season strong. It was big obstacles like this that helped enhance my passion and determination for my sport. Being raised by my dad, something I was always taught was to hustle - whether it be in my athletics or career.
With the sports that I have played - basketball, softball, and volleyball - I never had such an immense love for achieving greater and succeeding more than in the sport of Volleyball. I developed a sincere and significant amount of love for my team and the game as a whole. For my future collegiate experience, I want to explore all of my options to continue my Volleyball career in college. As a team player, I want to create an ideal team environment in games and practices - and to also be a great teammate to my team.
Learning the basic aspects of Volleyball (and more) still leaves me with a desire and passion to learn more about the game. The sport has taught me things such as how to be more self-disciplined, a sense of true grit, how to be coachable, and how to contribute to my team collectively.
