My name is Logan Smith and I have always been a volleyball player! My mom played in college, professionally, and now coaches so I grew up around the sport. My dad, a former collegiate and semi pro soccer player, also learned to play. Volleyball is a huge part of how I see myself.
I know that there are many girls, like myself, who have strong academics, love to play volleyball, and have families that play but I know that my desire to be a volleyball player goes beyond the average person's. When I was younger I grew fast and early (I am now 6'0) and I had issues with knee dislocations. I had to have two knee surgeries to correct the problem, completed months of PT and rehab, and worked hard to keep playing. I am proud of myself and am excited to say that I now play on the top ranked 17's team in New Mexico, ARVC 17-1 Adidas. I worked so hard and never gave up because I love playing competitive volleyball for the physical and mental challenges and i am so great full for all of the experiences volleyball has given me. I am even thankful for my surgeries because they taught me to push myself and to have patience.
I love time with my teammates, learning from coaches, and meeting new people! Volleyball truly brings people together. Whether it was when I payed doubles in Austria against players who spoke little English or when my family and I played in Mexico on the beach with people who spoke no English, the feeling of being one community was clear. In Mexico we played for hours and later that evening the opponents brought food to our home to thank us for playing with them and we shared our dinner in return. Although we did not speak the same language we connected through volleyball. I will never forget that day.
In the future I want to play in college while obtaining my degree. I dream of being a part of a volleyball family and community where ever I go to school! I hope to work in a STEM field like biology or forensics and would welcome a chance to travel and see the world! For the future, on my travels and in my life, I know volleyball will have taught me well and prepared me for anything that comes my way.
