When playing Volleyball, or any sport, it is important that everyone on the team gives their absolute best. When I play, I always look to be that person, the one who works hard and never stops trying even when I've reached my goal. There are many times when I feel that I want to give up, whether mentally and physically tired, or simply discouraged. No matter what the challenge may be, I like to accomplish it and take it even further to the next challenge.
Sports have always been a huge part of my life, while not always competitive, I learned the lessons of bonding and skills needed to be an athlete. Starting in third grade, I began competitive sports such as field hockey, and softball, and ever since then the hard work and dedication needed has stuck with me. In middle school is when I first began playing Volleyball, although it was challenging I learned rather quickly about the sport. Volleyball for me was never just another sport; when I would watch the other girls play, I saw the way that they bonded and had fun, yet still were able to achieve the task at hand, that being to be the first and get the next point. I began playing club volleyball in the seventh grade. It was a little scary since it seemed like everyone knew what they were doing, surprisingly, I made it on my first try and quickly found my place within the Volleyball world.
As a player, I like to be the one who goes above and beyond expectations, no matter how many tries it may take. A lot of players come to practice and games and afterwards continue on with their lives. I am not that player, no matter what time of day it is and how tired and in pain I may be, I find a way to continue practicing Volleyball. When I began playing high school Volleyball, a lot of the girls knew how to jump serve and place the ball with a purpose, while I knew somewhat of these skills, I was still learning. With lots of time and energy, even some letdowns, I successfully taught myself how to jump float serve, and tip powerfully in target areas. Ever since then, I have been recognized by many teams, including opposing teams on my forceful yet precise tipping abilities. My goal is to be the player who brings new skills to the team and to always be a role model of hard work and dedication. Being able to make mistakes and learn from them is also important to being a Volleyball player. For me, it is important to know that with every loss, it shows just how much more work needs to be put in next time.
As sports have become a huge part of my life, my academics and life long goals are also very important to me. From the time that I got my first pet at the age of four, I realized that being compassionate and helping those who go unheard was meant for me. With my love for animals and my caring nature, being a Veterinarian developed into a life long dream. I hope to go to a college that allows me to achieve this goal as well as continue with my athletic career. There are many prestigious Veterinary schools, but I hope to find the one that best fits me both academically and athletically equally. I look to specialize in surgery of large animals while still seeing smaller domestic animals. With continued support and hard work, I know that I can achieve my goals.
