My name is Hannah Rutan and I am a freshman at Grove City High School located in Grove City, Ohio. I am 5’8” and weigh 140 lbs and I started at the setter position for the Junior Varsity team this past season. I currently have a 3.3 GPA as I continue to take college prep classes. I have a great passion for volleyball and my dream is to play Division I volleyball for a great university that will help me reach my dream of becoming a nurse. I love to spend time with my friends at the movies, the mall, and especially at Starbucks. But I absolutely love spending time with my family. My mom and my dad have been my biggest inspirations and they continue to push me with my academics all while being the best person I can be. But the one thing I take a lot of pride in, other than my academics and volleyball, is being a good role model and big sister to my five year old brother Griffin. I absolutely adore him and want him to be successful in life. And by showing him how hard I work and the good choices I make in life, he then can follow in my footsteps as he pursues his own dreams.
In terms of volleyball, I am currently in my 7th season of club and have had the opportunity to travel most of the eastern part of the United States playing the game I love. I work hard in each practice and at each tournament to improve my skills for the next level. I know I can play at a high level in college and that alone motivates me to be the best player on the floor at any given time. When it comes to choosing a school, it’s all about fit. I want to walk on a campus and know that I am able to call it home for four years. Although ideally I want to go to a big 4 year Division I university, I am open and willing to go to a small Division I school, as well as Division II or Division III. In terms of location, I am open to the idea of going across the country to be a student-athlete. If a school finds me to be an important part of their volleyball future, I am not shutting out any opportunity that will allow me further my education while playing the sport I love. Once on a team, I know I will have to work hard to help the program succeed. But the coaches will also see my drive, my dedication, and my relentless effort to be the best. I will be a leader and an ambassador, not only for my team, but for my university.
Overall, I am ambitious, motivated, and excited to see what the future holds for me. My parents always teach me about hard work and how great things will come from it. And with all the hard work I am putting into my academics, my family, and volleyball, I invite you to come see me play and hopefully get to know me along the way.
