Lydia Wiers '19 Recruiting Profile

I started playing volleyball in the 4th grade for my school and decided to join a club in 7th grade in order to play year round and gain more exposure to the sport. I originally played for a National team at a small club about 30 min from my town. At the start of my sophomore year I switched to my current club, Cleveland Volleyball Company, which is over an hour away, so that I can experience a higher level of play through intensive training, experienced coaching, and competitive tournaments. After I started playing at CVC, I realized that college volleyball is something I want to pursue. I enjoy the strategy behind the game and the mental determination it requires; the team connection that is essential to success; and the opportunities to travel and the experiences that it affords.

 I am committed and hard working in both my sports and schoolwork. The first sport I played was basketball in the 3rd grade, and I have continued playing ever since. Over the last two years, I have balanced traveling to club volleyball practice and its numerous tournaments, while maintaining my starting varsity position in basketball. I also run track throughout the spring, which I fit into my volleyball schedule. I am a 3-year varsity letter winner in all three of my sports and I always work towards setting new goals and pushing myself until I reach them. I am dedicated to improving my skills in every practice and game in addition to developing more knowledge on my own game. In school I work to remain at the top of my class and to challenge myself with honors, AP, and post secondary courses as I finish out high school.
