Hi my name is Alicia Bloomer. I started playing volleyball when I was in 8th grade. The summer before my freshman year I went to as many open gyms and clinics as possible while living in Colorado to improve my game. We moved to Oklahoma toward the end of the summer. I attended open gyms and camps with the new school I would be going to and I tried out for the team. My skill level was improving but I was chosen for the manager of the freshman team. I was able to workout with the team during the off season in the weight room and on the court. When the coaches weren't using me for the drills, I was up against the wall with a ball working on passing, power behind my hits, and working on hitting at the wall then trying to dig it up before it hit the ground. I tried out again my sophomore year and didn't make it but I was the manager again for the freshman team and varsity team. I went up to the head coach and asked what I could do to improve as a player to make a club team or even the school team. The coach went on to tell me that I would never make the team for the school because I would never be good enough, I was too far behind on my skills. I used this as motivation to work harder and to improve. I again went to all the open gyms, clinics, camps, and privates I could. I was able to work out again with the team and improved my agility and skill on the court. I took everything I would hear the coach tell the other players and would use that to help me improve in my own skills as well. I made the club team at Wave Volleyball Club as a setter and ran a 5-1 the whole season. Our team went on to win 3rd at Regionals. I continue to play club. This next school year I am Varsity manager but it wasn't because I didn't improve but because the competition was high for both my positions as setter and DS. My head coach commented on how proud she was of me and how much I improved and encouraged me to keep playing and to definitely try out again for next year. She also asked me to be manager of the varsity team as she says I am a great addition to the team and she loves having me around. My goals for college is to be an amazing teammate and to improve as a player but also as a person. I would love to build relationships with my coaches and teammates on and off the court. I am a coachable and driven player and would be completely open to coaching from anywhere.
