- Beaverton Teen is Chosen by USA Volleyball For 2014 Girls’ Select A1 National Training Team Program BEAVERTON, OR May 13, 2014 An eighth-grade student from Southwest Christian School has been invited to join an elite team by USA Volleyball. Although she has only been playing for two years, 14-year-old Chloe Brown of Beaverton, was one of 55 girls in the nation selected to join the 2014 Girls’A1 National Training Team Program, which is the top USA Volleyball High Performance Program for the Select age group. Tryouts were held around the nation over a three month period. USA Volleyball (USAV) is the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of volleyball in the United States and is recognized as such by the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). The A1 Program is the National Training Team Program for USA Volleyball. The athletes who participate in this program will also compete in the High Performance Championship, one of USA Volleyball’s flagship events. The 100+ team event features tournaments for both boys and girls that include teams from USA Volleyball Region HP teams, International teams and teams from the USA Volleyball High Performance pipeline. Past International teams have included: Brazil, Chile, China, Dominican Republic, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, and Puerto Rico. The 2014 HP Championships will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma from July 22-26, 2014. At tryouts Brown impressed with her 6’1” wingspan, and was 1 of 15 middle blockers selected making her one of the country’s top newcomers to girls volleyball. She currently plays club volleyball for the Athena Volleyball Academy in Beaverton and is coached by Wendy Stammer (2013 Coach of the Year, Lakeridge High 6A). The Head Coach for Girls’ Select Age Group at High Performance Championships is Paula Weishoff, University of California, Irvine and three-time USA Volleyball Olympian, 1984 Olympic Silver Medalist, 1992 Olympic Bronze Medalist, and 2012 Olympic Silver Medal winning coach. The High Performance Pipeline is an integral part of the USA National Team system. The primary mission of USAV HP is to identify, train, and provide domestic and international competitive experiences for potential future USA Volleyball Olympians. Brown will also be competing with her current club team in the 41st AAU Girls' Junior National Volleyball Championships June 16-24, 2014 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Orlando, FL.
