My name is Lauren Witty and I will be a senior at Cottage Grove High School in Cottage Grove, Oregon. At Cottage Grove High School I have been a three-year varsity letter winner and a starter for the last two years. I am the setter, setting a 5-1 offense, for my high school team that placed 6th in state at the 4A level last year. During the season I averaged 35 assists per match (10.23 assists per set), 5 digs per match and 2 aces per match and had a 96% serving average. About two-thirds of the way through the season, I broke my right pinkie finger at a tournament at Marshfield High School. I knew that I needed to play for my team, so I played the rest of the tournament and school season with a broken finger. I didn’t miss a single set due to my injury.
In addition, I have been playing club volleyball for the last five years. I spent two years at Oregon Volleyball Club (OVC 14-1), two years at Webfoot Juniors Volleyball Club (15-1, 16-2) and finally at Game Day Volleyball Club (18-1). I have played setter, libero and defensive specialist. The year I played Webfoot 15-1, we were the top 15’s team in CEVA region, won a tournament in Reno, and advanced to Girls Junior Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana. I also have played two years of sand volleyball with Oregon Sand Volleyball Club (OSVC). While playing doubles at Seaside last year, my partner and I finished 9th overall in our division.
Entering my senior year of high school at Cottage Grove High School, I have a 3.97 GPA and 4.11 weighted GPA. I am taking many college courses and will enter my freshman year of college with many college credits. I am also very active in school activities including Leadership, Link Crew, and serving as a Coordinator for our Children’s Miracle Network Pageant. I volunteer coach at volleyball camps and referee South Valley Athletic girl’s volleyball matches.
After high school, I would like to attend a four-year college or university and major in Kinesiology or exercise health science. I will eventually apply for a graduate program in physical therapy. While in college, I would love the opportunity to play volleyball at the collegiate level. I have worked very hard over the last few years, to make this a real possibility for me.
I believe I am a well rounded student athlete that would bring many positives to a college level program. As a seven year old I survived a bout with Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). I spent 42 days in the hospital, had no kidney function for 5 weeks and nearly died. That experience made me see how important it is to do everything possible to meet your goals in life. I work through pain, put forth my best every time I am on the court. and give my full support to my teammates. I really want the opportunity to continue playing the game I love beyond high school and club volleyball.
