Personal Statement

When I began my first season of volleyball in fifth grade, I did not expect it to become such an impacting part of my life. I remember passing the ball with my sister when I was younger, which I enjoyed, but I never thought volleyball would be the sport for me. However, after that first season on a recreational team, I was hooked. I have continued to play every year and it has been so good for me. During my freshman year, I was on a very skilled team and we won many games, but it was not a very fulfilling season. At that point I was very shy and I did not feel comfortable being myself around my teammates. As I continued in years after, though, playing volleyball helped me gain confidence to be myself on and off of the court. It has also taught me leadership as well as the importance of putting the good of the team above myself.

Playing volleyball has allowed me to share experiences with a diverse group of people who come from many different backgrounds, and that is one reason why I hope to continue playing at a collegiate level. I'm looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically and academically, and that will also bring me more opportunities to build strong friendships.  I believe that I have the talent that it takes to compete for a college team, but more importantly I have the work-ethic, determination, and teamwork skills that are necessary to be a positive addition to your program.  As a three sport athlete, two time captain, and lover of extracurricular activities, I know that I have the commitment, drive, and enthusiasm to be a leader on your team!
