A heart is the most important organ. It supplies blood and oxygen to all parts of your body. It is an essential component to keep you alive. I have always strived to be the heart of the team on the court, supplying support, enthusiasm and positivity, keeping my team alive.
My parents have been extremely influential by molding me into the person I have become. My parents have known each other since they were eight and nine. They have struggled to raise a family at an early age, but have shown my sister and I that anything is possible if you are dedicated. They have instilled in me solid values of work ethic and most of all that you have to work hard for what you want to accomplish.
Early on in my volleyball career my parents set forth a rule; I could not talk about the great plays I had during a game until I stated something positive that each one of my teammates did. This was an important principle that has become a value.
Academics are extremely important to my family. My mother and father are college educated and my sister is pursuing a degree at UNLV. Academics have not always been easy for me. I know that I have the responsibility to succeed for myself and my family. Playing sports keeps me focused and encourages my success.
I became interested in volleyball when I was nine years old. My older sister played in middle school and then her first club team. She was coached by an amazing person and soon to be my coach, role model and mentor, Tina Edwards. Tina was the starting setter at the University of Oregon. She was instrumental in driving home the sportsmanship and leadership concepts that guide my principles today, on and off the court. I have truly been blessed to be surrounded with coaches that not only teach me about the sport I love, but the life skills I will need to succeed in life, outside of my sport.
My academic goals for high school are to consistently remain on honor roll. As for college I would like to pursue a degree where I will be able to assist the public. To support individuals in their time of need in a field of protective services.
Powerful forces sometimes come in small packages, I do. I am not 6’ tall and I am not stick thin. I am shorter and stronger than most. I am fearless and will sacrifice my body for my team. I am not afraid to lay out or go all out. I am quick and will always give 100% to get to the ball. Usually at first glance people may think just because I am smaller that I will not be as aggressive as I am, but I have had to prove them wrong, and in all honestly, I like the challenge.
Additionally, I just completed my 2015-2016 club season and was honored by being nominated by coaches and selected for the distinguished Candice Carter Award for, given to the most inspirational Libero and embodying passion for the game in every point!
