I grew up playing a lot of sports. I have participated in basketball, softball, volleyball, gymnastics, and swimming. My dad also grew up playing sports and he is the biggest influencer I have when it comes to the sports I play. He was a single parent for a long time which must have been hard to do. He had to work, put food on the table for my two siblings and me, and drive me all over Portland to my games and practices. His passion for sports and my future is what drives me to be the best person and athlete I am today.
As I grew up, I started to focus on softball and volleyball. I like to thank my step-sister for introducing me to the art of volleyball but another reason why I started playing was that most of the kids in my third-grade class were signing up to play CYO volleyball and I wanted to feel included. I quickly learned that I have a true passion to play. My dad played baseball growing up and my babysitter went to college to play softball so every sunny day we would go to the neighborhood high school to play softball. After falling in love with both sports, I asked my dad to help me get better and asked to play on more teams.
My freshman year in high school, I played junior varsity volleyball as a starter and I played varsity softball as a starter. I am now a junior in high school and I have played every position on the volleyball court and on the softball field. As of right now, I've been focusing on playing outside hitter and left back but I do play as middle hitter sometimes. This upcoming volleyball season will be my third year playing varsity. This softball season I am playing on the varsity team but I do swing down to junior varsity whenever the team needs me. On varsity, I play outfield and catch and I pitch and catch for the junior varsity team. I am very grateful that I have learned so much about what it is like to be a part of a team and a community since playing sports. I have learned to take initiative on and off the court and field when it comes to being a team player. I believe that I bring passion, integrity and hard work to the playing field/court.
