I am Ellewyn Swafford, a Varsity Middle Hitter at St. Mary's Academy (2024) in Portland, Oregon. Standing at 6'0", I have rapidly improved in my three years of playing volleyball, transitioning from a decade of competitive rock climbing where I achieved national rankings in all three disciplines: sport, speed, and bouldering. In Fall 2024, I was selected 1st Team All League in the 6A Three Rivers League.
My training and competition experience in rock climbing provides me with a strong foundation of physical and mental training, along with acute spatial awareness and the importance of being coachable. As a middle hitter, I pride myself on my blocking and attacking, along with using my height, strength, and quick reflexes.
I am passionate about pursuing a well-rounded education along with athletics, fully embracing the role of scholar athlete. I value academic excellence and strive to maintain my 4.0 GPA or greater, and a rigorous, stem-focused, academic schedule including honors, AP, and college-level coursework. I believe that a strong academic foundation is essential for lifelong personal growth and success, and I am committed to pursuing both my athletic and academic goals in college.
Through volleyball, I’ve discovered that I love playing on a team and I am excited to find the college volleyball community where both the team and I can thrive.
