I have been playing volleyball for 9 years now. When I started it was just a game and something to do as a 3rd grader. It did not take long for me to fall in love with the game and realize that it was something that I wanted to continue to play and complete at a high level at the interscholastic, travel and the college level. I understand the work that it takes to play, but I am willing to make both the commitment and the sacrifices that it takes in order to make that happen as I am excited to see what the future holds for me. I would be grateful to be afforded such an opportunity.
Playing the game of volleyball has taught me many valuable lessons and has helped shape me into the person that I am today. The sport has shown me the importance of respect, collaboration and teamwork, focus, appreciation, good sportsmanship, hard work, dedication and most of all I have learned not to take any of it for granted. My season was cut short my junior year during high school ball due an ACL tear which resulted in surgery and a 7 month rehabilitation and recovery. Missing the remainder of my high school season and my 17U travel season was unfortunate but only made me realize to never take any opportunity you are given or the talents that you have for granted. This bump in the road has only deepened my passion to play and desire to come back strong.
Although my stature is not mighty, my athleticism, vertical and work ethic has allowed me to be able to help my team in almost any position on the court. Although my most recent starting positions have been an outside hitter and defensive specialist; I have also started or been put in as a libero and a middle hitter/blocker when my coach felt I was needed in those positions on a given night or a Saturday. My movement to start where I am needed may be the reason my STATS do not jump off the page but I believe this also speaks of my coachability and my willingness to be a team player.
I am humbled by the fact that my coaches have always had the faith to put me on the floor as a starter since I have been playing competitive ball. As a sophomore, I dressed varsity on a very talented senior heavy team. I was beyond proud to have the coaches confidence when I got the nod when our undefeated varsity season and section championship was on the line when our starting outside hitter. We won the match and finished 12-0, making school history that night, moving on to advance to the WPIAL and the PIAA playoffs. As a junior starter I managed to make 3rd team all section, playing 3 different positions and playing a little less than two thirds of the season due to my season ending injury.
Off the court, I work hard in the classroom to maintain a strong GPA, the honor roll and good study habits while being involved in numerous school clubs and working two part-time jobs. I enjoy skiing, spending time with my family and my friends.
My goal is to attend college and to continue to play volleyball with a program that will push me to become a better player and a better human. I want to strive to find a good balance with athletics, academics and life. I want to work hard to achieve my goals, chase my dreams and inspire others.
