Hi, I’m Jasmine Rawlins! I am a dual sport student-athlete, participating in both track/field and volleyball. I am 14 and a sophomore at Briarcrest Christian School. At 12, I started as Middle Blocker for Briarcrest's freshman team. In 2022, we were undefeated and I was named 2022 Most Improved Player. In 2023, I was dual rostered as Middle Blocker and Opposite Hitter for the Freshman and JV team, respectively. I was awarded the 2023 Coaches Award for my leadership, remarkable skills, and unparalleled commitment to the team. For the 2024 season, I started as Middle Blocker on the varsity team. Playing for Briarcrest, an 11-time TSSAA Division II AA state championship program has taught me the importance of hard work and making the most of opportunities.
I started playing competitive volleyball at Memphis Volleyball Academy (MVA) in 2022. This past season, I played for the 14 Red National Team. We placed 1st in Adidas Bluegrass in Louisville (14 USA); 2nd in President's Day Classic in St. Louis (14 OPEN); and qualified at the Asics Show Me Qualifier in Kansas City (14 USA) where we subsequently finished 3rd at the 2024 USAV Nationals in Las Vegas, NV (14 USA). I'm so proud of all our 2024 accomplishments! This upcoming season with 15 Red, the goal is to win the USAV National Championship.
Volleyball is a true passion for me. It has given me opportunities that I am thankful for and has taught me a lot about myself. The most important thing I’ve learned is to always keep a positive mindset. I believe this helps me to be coachable and encouraging to my teammates even through adversity. It doesn’t matter who you are or how old you are. It’s about working hard, giving 100%, and leading by example.
Off the court, I place a strong emphasis on academic studies which has resulted in honor roll accolades. My family has always challenged me academically which is why I am one year ahead in school. In college I plan to continue the same, majoring in nursing or another field of study associated with health care. I would like to attend a university that will not only meet my academic requirements, but also has a competitive volleyball program with great team camaraderie.
For other extracurricular activities, I love to travel and experience different people and cultures; play the flute; and brush up on my Italian to maintain proficiency. I lived in Italy for 6 years while my parents were stationed overseas in the military. This afforded me the opportunity to see much of Europe, which I really enjoyed. I attended Italian international schools from kindergarten through 5th grade. Being fully immersed in the Italian culture enabled me to become fluent in the language. I am now studying French to master a third language.
My community is just as important to me. I have supported various organizations including Meals on Wheels, Camp Conquest, etc. I also served as a member of the Key Club, Girls Mentor Girls, and Baking Club to name a few. My hope is to one day serve as a well-rounded ambassador while at the collegiate level, setting an example for other young ladies to emulate as they pursue their dreams.
