Hello coach.
My name is Camera Jernair Broadnax. In 2012, I graduated from Mansfield Timberview High School in Mansfield, Texas (MISD) where I captained and lead the Varsity Girls Volleyball Team as one of the top libero/DS in the State of Texas. I was the only senior (of eight) to make the First Team All-District at my position. I also earned "Back to Back" Defensive Player of the Year (Jr. and Sr. year). My accomplishments on the court have placed me in the top 3 in Timberview's school history. Before high school, my honors at Fort Worth Academy were All-District (SPC), MVP, Offensive/defensive player, and overall "Female Athlete of the Year" (volleyball and basketball).
I have very high goals and standards for myself. I am looking forward to the upcoming challenges of this 2013 season. One of my goals, which I’ve already started, is to attend a rigorous training program at SPIRE lnstitute/Micheal Johnson Training Center in Geneva, Ohio, under the direction of John Hawks (Director of Volleyball). SPIRE lnstitute/MJP is considered to be one of the best training facilities in the country. Understandably, I would love to win the conference and follow that up with a National Championship but I realize that I need my teammates on the same page and at Junior Colleges that can be a challenge sometimes. I quickly found out that through patience and communication I can affect my team positively so we can all feel the joy of our work and that whatever the result if we leave it all out there and make good choices then the process and the journey far outweigh the result.
My father, Jerry Broadnax, was a former NFL Tight-end. I’ve been fortunate that his experiences have been taught to me. He has been one of my former coaches, trainers, and is my biggest fan and supporter. He helped train and coach several successful athletes in the past, most notably, Shameron Turner, an All-State Champion (Texas) and an All-American at Auburn University in Track and Field. The biggest compliment I receive is that several high schools/collegiate coaches comment to me that I am a very talented and gifted athlete who plays with passion and that I have a good read or first step quickness they want in their players. I’m only 5'4" and a 125 lbs, but I get everything out of it!! I believe that I was born to play the Libero/DS position.
I have a dream to make the USA Olympic Team under Coach Kiraly and lead the US to a gold medal but first I must first find the right program to pursue my degree. I feel that it’s important to keep repeating my dreams so that it always reminds me to keep making great life choices.
I am now a sophomore at Pratt Junior College in Pratt, Kansas…thank you for taking a second to read this and I hope that we can talk soon. My father can be reached at (214) 859-7177
