I love volleyball, and I would love to play volleyball in college. As a junior this year, I again ran my high school team's 5-1 offense and was elected as a team captain. I helped lead my team to repeating as state champions, serving as stabilizing force on the court, ensuring my team maintained their confidence and composure even in the most challenging situations this season. As a smart and athletic setter, I love playing a 5-1 where I contribute broadly to my team's success. This year I worked hard to improve my skills beyond setting, resulting in a significant contribution in digs, kills, aces and blocks as well as assists. I currently have over 2,300 career assists, 500 career digs, 200 career kills, 180 career aces and over 50 blocks.
My strengths include excellent on court decision making, strong setting accuracy and consistency as well as the ability to add a unique attacking element to our game averaging over 2 kills per set on setter attacks. I can attack both left and right handed, and using this weapon ensures my hitters draw fewer blocks and get more kills. Last year on my club team I ran a 5-1 offense as well, finishing 2nd in digs and aces for the team, and 3rd in blocks behind my 2 middle blockers.
I am passionate about academics and want to play for a school where I can find a balance between volleyball and strong academics. I currently have an unweighted 4.0 GPA (cumulative) and scored 35 on the ACT. I also scored an 800 on the SAT Math II and Chemistry subject tests, as well as a 5 on seven AP exams so far (Calculus BC, Physics C - M, Physics C - EM, Chemistry, Biology, Spanish Language, US Government). I will be taking post AP level Calculus and Physics as a senior this fall, as well as AP Microeconomics.
My favorite classes are math and science. I'm taking an advanced math and science curriculum, the hardest any student at Greenhill has taken, which just emphasizes my willingness to challenge myself and work hard to achieve my goals. In addition to my commitment to academics and volleyball, I am captain of the math team, president and founder of the Space Club, and president of Women in STEM. I also write for the school paper, have played in the orchestra and lettered in basketball, bowling and golf. This summer, I will be completing an internship in astrophysics at Southern Methodist University where we will be study variable stars.
I'm interested in academically rigorous schools where I can make an impact on and off the court. My coaches and teammates would describe me as consistent, hard working and a big thinker who loves to learn both on the court and in the classroom.
