Katrina Sanchez '20 Recruiting Profile

I am a utility player. I’m currently libero and occasionally a setter on my high school varsity team but played middle blocker last varsity season as a Sophomore. During club season I’m usually an outside hitter and middle back where I play all the way around, rarely coming off the court.   My coaches generally describe me as “coachable” and a leader on the court. I’ve learned that I can overcome both mental and physical obstacles through playing volleyball.  Volleyball has taught me to be a team player and the importance of communication in order for my team to be successful.  

I love a challenge. I challenge myself academically by taking multiple AP courses, and in volleyball by taking on new positions based on the needs of my team and my coach. This Varsity season has been a great growth opportunity as I am playing libero, which is a new position for me.  Libero is especially challenging since I’m a bit of a perfectionist, and hate that I can’t dig every hit on the court.  This season has taught me to play aggressively, to focus on the point at hand, and to be more forgiving of myself and my teammates when things are challenging.  I’ve grown as a person and as a teammate, and am currently a leader on my team. I’d love the opportunity to join your team and be a leader on your defense as libero, setter, or in any capacity where my skills would be of benefit.

My Varsity team’s season just ended, so I ended the season #1 in digs in my District (for in-district games), and had a total of 508 digs in 99 sets (5.1 digs per set average) for the season (for both in and out of district games).  This Varsity season, I had 510 serve/receives (an 89% success rate), a 96.7% serving percentage, 49 kills, and 86 assists.
