Hi,
My name is Sequoyah. I am the second oldest of six kids. This has allowed me to work on coping skills and team building ever since I was little. From this I have gained valuable experience in patience as well as being a team player. Being one of the older children in my family, I have sought further opportunities to work with kids. This past spring I was a head volleyball coach for the middle school girl’s volleyball team. I was able to take a group of girls with a wide variety of experience. Some had played volleyball before and others had never touched a ball. Even though we didn’t win every match, by the end of the season we were a team that supported each other and lifted one another. Team building along with improving self esteem is one of the most important aspects during this age, as they are trying to find out who they are, and what interests they have. To be able to take players with such a broad spectrum of experience and watch them grow into a team was a lot of hard work but was worth every smile, hug and high five at the end.
Although I am undecided in my major, I have grown up knowing that I want to go to college and be successful. On all of the teams that I have played with, I have had the ability and the skill to be a versatile player. I have played as an opposite, setter and an outside. My main position in school this year is setting. I am a very coachable player and know the effect of positive teamwork. Volleyball would allow me to accomplish my goal in furthering my education. Volleyball gives me an outlet, and lets me be who I want to be.
