A little bit about me:
Hello, my name is Jada Crockett and I am a member of the class of 2023. I attend Northampton high school in Eastville, VA. I am currently dual enrolled at the Eastern Shore Community College. By 2023 I will have graduated with my associates degree in General Studies. This program is actively helping me academically prepare to transfer to a 4 year college when I graduate. I reside in a small town called Cheriton with my mom, grandma, two little brothers, my dog Sweet pea and my cat Chow. Besides volleyball I love activities like, singing, painting, and photography. When I’m not in school or playing volleyball, I’m probably at the beach.
Background:
When I first started playing volleyball in the 4th grade I felt as if I would never be able to make it to varsity level in high school. I struggled to make friends on my team due to my skill level, which pushed me to almost quit in 7th grade. My 8th grade year I decided to approach the JV season with a growth mindset. I promised to myself that for the next 5 years I would do whatever it took to improve at the sport I loved the most, and that is what I did. I went to several camps before tryouts, practiced daily in my backyard, participated in beach volleyball outside of my school. I did whatever it took to improve, and as a junior on varsity I still strive every day to get better. Living in a small rural area has pretty much restricted my ability to play on a travel team. In 2020 my community decided to form its own travel team called Eastern Shore Volleyball Association. Pre-covid, we participated in a few tournaments before being shut down due to COVID-19. At the end of our season we had a team award showcase where I won the most determined player. Winning that award made me feel very noticed. That all of the hard work and effort I’ve put into being the best version of myself was finally recognized.
On the court:
On the court I am very determined to win and to create a positive environment for my team. My ability to jump high benefits my hitting and blocking skills. I am especially good at blocking the line when playing opposite. I strive on the court to be friendly to my teammates, and always try to help, not just myself, but everyone improve. When I graduate in 2023 I hope to advance to the collegiate level because I truly do love volleyball more than anything. Not only do I love the sport, but I love being surrounded with people who love the sport just as much as I do. Making personal connections with my team is definitely one of my favorite things about volleyball . I know that with any team I play on I will always be driven to help my team no matter what. I also know that I will be able to thrive in any environment I’m put in, and will always strive to be the best volleyball player that I can be.
