Hello! My name is Makayla Hickman, class of 2024 Libero. I attend Ridgeline High School in Washington and compete in the 3/4A GSL. During the 2022 season I am the starting Libero and prior GSL Honorable Mention! This club season I will be playing on CPA 17 National.
Over my years of playing my love for volleyball has grown immensely and opened my eyes to a new view of volleyball. When I step on the court, I continue to improve my skills and become a great teammate/leader. I play every point with passion and grit and strive to be an aggressive and smart player that isn't afraid to risk their body for any point.
During my second year of club volleyball I was introduced to the Libero position and it opened my eyes to wanting to play volleyball at a higher level. As years went on I trained to become better and my hard work payed off. I was the starting JV Libero at Central Valley High school my freshman year and 4 months later I was the starting varsity Libero at Ridgeline.
Although my main sport is indoor volleyball, I have played sand volleyball as well. I did sand my 6th, 7th, and 8th grade year, but due to covid I did not do sand my freshman year. As a Libero, sand has helped me to read hitters better, become better at communicating, and helped me to stay athletic during the off season. Also during the off season I work on speed and agility and this year I am starting weight training. As a high school athlete I also do track and field. My freshman year I was a varsity high jumper and did other events as well.
When I am not playing volleyball, I work hard in my academics. I have had a 4.0 GPA since 7th grade and I plan to work hard to achieve that for the rest of my years. I have been on the honor roll system since elementary school. In 8th grade I was given the Pace Student of The Year Award. I am taking Biomed series throughout high school to continue my love for the medical field. I am interested in becoming a nurse and major in RN.
I have a caring and thoughtful personality, but I am also very discipline and hard working at everything I do. I have always been taught that hard work eventually pays off. I strive to always have a positive attitude, but also push others to be a better teammate/player. Having this positive mindset will help me to achieve skills to my best ability, as well as help others.
I am excited for what the future holds for me and to continue my skills and leadership as a volleyball player. Thank you for taking your time to look at my profile.
