Melena Wong '24 Recruiting Profile

Hey Coaches! I'm Melena Wong.  I am a 5’9" setter in the class of '24.  My passion for volleyball sprouted from my drive for competitiveness and leadership on the court.  I use my voice and helping hands to uplift my teammates and encourage them during struggling moments.  Learning and developing are important aspects of my growth journey while being a setter, it  was really crucial for me to learn from others who have mastered the skill of setting, but also to advance my passing, serving, and decision making skills. As I am competing at higher levels, I continue to seek opportunities to learn from other setters. My role as a setter really makes me connect with the game, the ball, and teammates, as my part is to keep us in line.  This high school season I ran a 5-1 setting rotation as a starter, leading my team to the final round of districts.  As floor captain, I lead the court and help finalize the decisions on where I know my team can be successful and great.  On the sidelines, I'm the loudest one yelling and celebrating with my teammates.   Off the court, I love running, hiking, and workouts to keep my body in shape. This fall high school season, I was named on the KingCo All-League Honorable Mention  and was awarded the Varsity Coaches Award.   Most importantly, I love being with my family and friends!  I love having big gatherings with my family and just talking or exploring the places we travel to!  Outside of the gym, I'm working outside in my backyard volleyball sport court to get reps in and to become a better volleyball player. With this, I am able to get a lot more practice for setting reps, passing, etc.  My goal for my volleyball career is playing in college.  I love watching college athletes be able to live the next chapter of their lives and have it still include volleyball.  I love the competitiveness, relationships, and experience of being a student athlete and I would love to carry my drive throughout college!
