Hi! My name is Laila Lamour, and I am a rising junior at Amity Regional High School. I am grateful to my club and high school coaches for giving me the opportunity to play high school season water polo for Hamden Hall. I have been swimming since I was 5 years old and was introduced to water polo in 8th grade. I instantly fell in love with the sport because I loved my teammates and the competitiveness of water polo. I decided to pursue water polo as my main sport because it made me feel happier than any sport I have ever played.
I am academically driven and always try to perform my best in school. I study hard to maintain a high GPA and challenge myself by taking advanced courses. In addition to maintaining good grades, I volunteer at Saint Raphael’s Hospital for YNHH, the Haitian Food Pantry of Stratford, and participate in the Youth Leaders Club to be an asset to my community.
I have strong mental toughness, offense, defense, and a high water polo IQ. I am very coachable and take my coaches advice to heart during practices and games. I love to bond with my teammates and always encourage them at practice and games whether we win or lose. As a team leader and MVP of my sophomore year, I know how to balance being a team player and stepping up when my team needs me. I strive to be the most dedicated and hardworking player/recruit you will find.
I work hard to improve my playing skills year around by participating in club season, high school track, high school water polo, high school swim, club swim, water polo clinics, and lifting in the weight room. I try to help my team in any way I can and encourage teamwork in and out of the pool. I have been playing at the 18u level since I was 14 and push myself to rise up to challenges. I am a player that is determined, motivated, and can do anything I put my mind to.
I want to play in college to continue to improve my playing skills in the sport I love. After years of trying to choose between track, swimming, and waterpolo I know in my heart that water polo is the sport I'm meant to play.
I can't imagine my life without it and the water is like a second home to me. Playing water polo has taught me leadership, teamwork, humility, and perseverance. It also inspires me everyday to become a better student, athlete, and member of my community. I am looking forward to developing my skills throughout the rest of my high school career and college!
