Personal Statement

My name is Jessica (Jess) Black. I am 17 years old and I am from Johannesburg, South Africa. My goal is to play D1 college water polo. I enjoy an academic and athletic challenge so that I can develop as a player and an athlete. Being a student athlete will allow me to meet new people, experience an amazing academic environment whilst also being able to play waterpolo at the highest level which is my passion.

I am hardworking and a disciplined player. I am agile and can adapt to any style of play, positioning and coaching techniques. I am not the largest player, but I am tough and resilient in the water. I love the team aspect to water polo because there is a bond within a team that is unbreakable.

I started playing water polo in 2018 and I have loved it ever since. I have played at a club, school and provincial level. I have grown as a player over the years and so has my love for the sport. I have been fortunate enough to earn awards along my journey.

Although I love this sport, my academics are also very important to me. I take pride in my academics and strive to achieve my best marks.
