Personal Statement

  • Kia ora, my name is Gemma! I am New Zealander who is driven to excel both in and out of the pool. Highlights from my career so far have been playing for New Zealand at the U16 World Champs in 2024, and winning the Hawaiian Invitational tournament in 2023. I am currently training towards the 2026 World Champs with the NZ born 2008 Women's squad. My greatest strength in the pool is how threatening I am on the 2m line – often within minutes of the start of the game I am being dropped on. Even so, the opposition still struggle and I am the top scorer and ejection earner for my age in both my club and school teams. I play center forward and driver to post up, and can also play center back, and I bring a great combination of strength and speed into the pool. I put in hours of extra training each week outside of practice and am often described by coaches as the hardest working player they know.  Along with polo I am highly motivated in the classroom, taking a number of Honors classes with a weighted GPA of 4.1, and I serve as a volunteer lifeguard in the weekends.  You will find me highly coachable, incredibly hard working, a great teammate, and someone who is very keen to make a huge contribution to your programme.
