Personal Statement
I started playing water polo when I was 6 years old, with the sole aspiration of having fun and playing with my friends. As the years progressed I started building a more competitive character, and by the time I was 10 I played at a national level. Today, when I look back I can see how much I grew and know how much I can still improve. It has been my greatest aspiration to play at a collegiate level ever since I started middle school.
I am a centre-back, 5ft7" and weigh 145 lbs. I have good ball-handling skills, strong eggbeater and good shooting skills. I was able to develop my skills by playing in more than one position as my coach considers me a very versatile player. Other positions include driver and centre-forward
I believe what really separates me from other players is my vast experience both at national and international level. I have participated to 13 Italian championships finals, winning a total of 8 gold medals. The predominant skills which were needed in order to accomplish this were passion and leadership. I had the opportunity to develop this last one as vice-captain of the team. Furthermore, I had the opportunity to play at an international level in the European Cup with the Italian U15 National team.
I have strong self-management skills; whilst playing at the highest levels I am also attending the rigorous International School in Genoa. I work hard to balance my academics and sports, striving to keep both at the highest possible level. I also participated in a community service program, where I was provided with the opportunity to volunteer at an elderly house in Genoa.
I am both confident and self-critical, two qualities which really help me understand how to improve and reach for excellence; I do so with passion and determination. I am easily coachable and am always open to anything that can help me become a better player.
I want to attend a college where I can push myself both athletically and academically, I am looking for a college experience that will make me grow both in and out of the pool.
