Hello, My name is Laura Totty and I have been wrestling ever since I can remember. It started in the living room with my dad, which grew into me joining a team at 7 years old. I at first did not like wrestling on a team but seeing my brother (Austin Totty, who is a sophomore in college wrestling for Central College in Pella Iowa) love it so much made me join again and ever since that day I have never looked back. It took a lot of hard work and determination but I got my first ever 1st place when I was 11, Wrestling has taught me a lot like is not about who is the better wrestler it is about how much work you put in, and that against all odds you can come out a champion.
During my 8th grade year, COVID hit and I could not wrestle. During COVID my dad passed away and all my motivation for anything went away with him. Then I stepped on the mat for the first summer practice for my high school. And everything came back to me it's like he had never been gone telling me to keep my nose on the grindstone and that every mat I walk on to is my home. Now I have found my purpose to make him proud every day whether it's in school or on the mat.
School is something that has always been important to me. With my mom being a teacher I was always around the school system. And my grades have always been important. I hold a 3.7 + GPA. I not only want to excel in sports but in school as well.
In my freshman year of high school, I placed 1st in the Vine Valley Athletic League (VVAL) and 7th in the girl's NCS CIF tournament. In my sophomore season, I placed 1st again in the Vine Valley Athletic League (VVAL), and in the girl's NCS CIF tournament I placed 3rd! Etching my place into the 2023 state competition!
At CIF State I tore my ACL. I had ACL Reconstruction Surgery in May of 2023. I am progressing very well and I am using my free time to focus on my studies and coaching my team and helping whenever necessary. I am also working table and learning about the behind-the-scenes of what goes on in a match. I am also going to be a manager for my Track and Field team at my school. Preparing to become a shotput thrower in the next Spring season.
