Hi, my name is Miah Weldon. I started my martial arts journey in the third grade. I attended a small Judo class in my town and immediately fell in love with it. I quickly outgrew my small town Judo class and decided to try out Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the fifth grade. Within the first 2 months I competed in my first competition and loved the thrill of it. After that I knew I always wanted martial arts to be in my life. I love competitions so much I've competed in over 30 Jiu Jitsu tournaments. Most of them being without a team or coach.
In the start of my 7th grade year my dad had to drag me to a seminar the high school wrestling team was putting on. He wanted me to have a good understanding of martial arts and self defense. I started attending wrestling class with my club coach Larry Giron, and competed in a few wrestling tournaments in middle school.
I started wrestling for Yucca Valley High School my freshman year. This is when my passion switched from Jiu Jitsu to wrestling. I literally lost every match until about halfway through the season. Which was rough but I was able to place second in league. Then for my sophomore year COVID hit and I was able to practice a little but not compete which was a disappointing time. After that, I grew tremendously my junior year. Placing first in League, second in Regionals, and making it all the way to Masters. I was the girls team captain and we went undefeated and placed first in our League. I am so proud of how my entire team performed and how much they grew throughout the season. Most of them started the season with little to no wrestling experience at all. Since the '21-'22 season ended I have not stopped wrestling. I attended an ASU Wrestling Camp and a few other seminars and tournaments.
I want to compete collegiately because I want to take the sport I love the most and grow in it as much as I possibly can. I love coaching and teaching. After college I would love to coach wrestling at the high school level. I want to help grow the sport of Women's Wrestling to the best of my ability by coaching and competing to my highest level. If you've made it this far, thank you for your time. I promise to always give my 100% to both my team and teammates. Thank you!!
