My name is Aspen Barber. I am currently a high school Senior at Springs Studio for Academic Excellence in Colorado Springs, CO. I have loved the sport of wrestling ever since I was little and endured being the only girl on the team several times in elementary and middle school. As a Freshman I was very excited that girls wrestling became a pilot sport in Colorado. I brought 5 others girls in the wrestling room and they stayed the whole season. They continue to return to the mat every year. My goals are to make it to the state tournament. I was able to achieve that in my Junior year placing 2nd at the get state tournament. Pursuing wrestling full time at the club level with Betterman Elite wrestling has allowed my technique and fitness to flourish. I have continued to work hard all through the COVID Pandemic. Being trained more in freestyle and greco, has improved my wrestling leaps and bounds. I competed this past season in several tournaments most notable tournaments were; National Showcase (placing 8th), Cadet and Junior World Team Trials (placing 7th in Cadets) and US Nationals in Fargo, ND (placing 8th). I am very proud of my hard work and accomplishments this season but know I have higher goals and more work to do to get there, hard work and dedication is the path to success.
I am fairly certain I would like to pursue a degree in Athletic Training/Kinesiology/Exercise Science. That type of job market is both intriguing and very hands-on, which I enjoy.
Thank you for the opportunity and look forward to speaking with coaches.
