I wanted to start by thanking any Coach that takes the time to view my profile, and read my personal statement. Wrestling been a central activity to my family for many years. My grandfather wrestled for Wesleyan, my father for his high school, and I am proud that my brother and I are continuing that tradition. My roots sprouted in club wrestling, at MarcAurele in CT, where my brother had already started wrestling. While I loved the grueling practices, I didn't always join in for meets. One tournament I did complete was Gene Mills in NY, 2015, placing 1st for girls. Once in middle school, at the Rectory School (a junior prep private boarding school that I attended as a day student) I decided to take my wrestling to a competition level. I was a captain of this all boys team in 8th grade, and earned the New England Junior prep title for my weight class. COVID paused my wrestling development for the next couple years. I decided to follow my academic interest of Architecture by transferring to a technical high school in grade 9. I made the wrestling team, although my first year was really only weight training because of the pandemic. In my sophomore year the season held more promise for competition. I was lighter than any weight class for the class M league, which in CT is mostly comprised of male athletes. I was the JV 106 with only a handful of matches. CT held their first CT Girls State Championships, and I was the only athlete on my team to place, landing in 6th. I attended Summer Nationals with NUWAY during the summer of 2022, and earned 3 place in the female division, which awarded me All American Status.
Currently I am a junior at Ellis Technical High school excelling in Sustainable Architecture. I am the Varsity #106, although I consistently weigh in around #100- #101. I have yet to loose to another female this year. My current record is 13-7. Some of my losses to male wrestles are to the same wrestler. I will wrestle in the #100 weight class for Girls States. I believe my greatest asset is my drive and work ethic. As a dyslexic learned, I discovered early on that I typically needed to put in more work than everyone in the room. I have learned to advocate for myself academically, and my transcript is proof that anything I set my intention to is possible.
Although I have been wrestling for several years, the deeper commitment I have made in the last year has really ignited a fire within me to improve and elevate myself as a competitor. I still consider myself to be a novice wrestler, and look forward to blooming in my skills, strength, speed, and ability to think quickly. I know that I have significant room for growth, and hope to find a great match where I can do so at the collegiate level.
