Personal Statement
I started wrestling during my exchange year in Utah at Bonneville High School for which I had a scholarship from the German parliament. Before coming to the US I did competitive speedskating for 13 years but due to covid there were a lot of restrictions. I wanted to try something completely different, which is why I tried out for Basketball, but I did not make the team. I do not give up, therefore, I contacted the wrestling coaches and tried out there. I fell in love with the sport since it makes me feel strong and empowered and I can put all my energy into it. The team had overall four girls and many boys, I was their 115 pounder and qualified for State, where I placed 6th. I loved the team spirit even if it was only a small team. When I returned to Germany I joined a club. Now I am the only girl and wrestle the boys at practice. This year is the first time in our region at the duals that girls are allowed to compete in freestyle. This sport gives me fire in my soul. Overall, I am a very determined and passionate person that always thrives for the best, which I want to proof in college.
