HI! My name is Tarriel White. I was born in Chicago, Illinois, and currently live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I'll be 17 years old when I enter my senior year of high school graduating class of 2025. I consider myself to be outgoing , strong-willed, well spoken, compassionate, and intelligent. As an African American child growing up in a mostly white community, my first seven years of school were chaotic when moving to iowa as I struggled mightily to find my identity and place. From the age of seven until the age of fourteen, I engaged in significant behaviors that hampered my social and academic development in both the community and the school setting elementary was hard middle school was hard and my first year of high school was one of the hardest freshmen year was a complete mess and I was ready to get myself together
I wanted a fresh start, so when I started my sophomore year of high School wonderful grades, my behavioral teacher, Mr. Andrew May, suggested that I try wrestling. He talked to my mom and kind of forced me into it, even though I wasn't sure about it because I started late and didn't feel like I belonged. My coaches, Erik Naaktgeboren and Mike Geers at Linn-Mar High School, told me not to worry and to just wrestle. I wasn't very good, but I did it, and I worked hard to get better, I preserved, and fell in love with wrestling. After finishing my sophomore year with a 7–20 record, I switched to Marion High School. for a new beginning in my academic and social life, as well as to start my wrestling career with a new team and new coaches.forming a new family with my coaches and teammates during the season, seeing how much I matured, and being chosen for first team all metro at the conclusion of my junior wrestling season Despite the discomfort and a concussion, I gave it my all in my tournament and placed sixth at regionals. It may not have been much, but it was a significant accomplishment for me, demonstrating how far I went and realizing that even with all the obstacles , there is a positive result at the end
