I’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons from the sport of wrestling. The most important thing I’ve learned throughout my four years of learning and loving this sport is you always have to keep your head up when walking off the mat whether it’s after a hard practice or the hardest match you’ve ever wrestled. Not everything is about winning, sure it feels amazing to win every match and come in first at a tournament, but you also learn and grow from the matches that you lose. Losing makes you want to work harder at the positions that aren’t your strong suit, and work even harder at the positions you’re good at. One thing that my coaches have said to me time and time again that has stuck with me throughout the years is wrestle my match and work in the positions that I know will put me in a winning position. Wrestling is mental, it’s physical, and it’s hard and it’s brutal. But most of all it’s a fun experience.
