Personal Statement

From the moment I stepped onto the mat, I knew that this sport was something special. It has not only taught me discipline, determination, and perseverance, but it has also helped me evolve as a person and as a woman in a male-dominated world.Growing up, I was always drawn to sports that were considered more 'masculine.' I loved the physicality and the challenge that came with them. However, when I first expressed my interest in wrestling, I was met with skepticism and doubt from those around me. Many people believed that wrestling was not a sport for girls and that I would never be able to compete with the boys. But I refused to let their opinions hold me back.I worked tirelessly to prove myself on the mat. I trained harder than anyone else, pushing myself to my limits and beyond. And it paid off. In my first year of wrestling, I was named team captain, a position that I was incredibly proud of. I was also a state qualifier, a feat that many thought was impossible for a first-year wrestler. But I didn't let their doubts affect me. I knew that I had the skills, the determination, and the heart to succeed. Wrestling has not only taught me physical strength, but it has also taught me mental strength. It has taught me to never give up, even when faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges. It has taught me to believe in myself and my abilities, even when others may doubt me. And most importantly, it has taught me to never let my gender hold me back from pursuing my passions and achieving my goals. As a woman in a male-dominated sport, I have faced my fair share of challenges and obstacles. But I have never let them stop me from reaching my full potential. I have worked twice as hard to prove myself and to show that I am just as capable as any male wrestler. And I am proud to say that my hard work has paid off. I am currently ranked 10th in my state, a ranking that I am determined to improve upon. Wrestling has not only made me a better athlete, but it has also made me a better person. It has taught me the value of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. It has shown me that with determination and a strong work ethic, anything is possible. And I am grateful for every lesson and every challenge that this sport has brought into my life. In conclusion, wrestling holds a special place in my heart. It has not only helped me evolve as a person, but it has also shown me that I am capable of achieving anything I set my mind to. As a woman in a man's world, I am proud to be a wrestler and to show that gender does not define one's abilities. I am determined to continue pushing myself and breaking barriers in this sport, and I am excited to see where my wrestling journey will take me in the future.
