Hello-
My name is Parker, I am currently a Junior at Cannon Falls Highschool. I moved to MN my Sophomore year, during one of the hardest times in a lot of young Americans lives. Covid, impacted my life in so many ways, ending my freshman year with losing out of the Disney Duals wrestling for South Dakota, moving 300 miles from "Home" then to giving up my Sophomore Wrestling Season due to all the rules and regulations held by MN.
During my time in SD I start wresting in a Booster Club in the 4th grade. I got interested due to my younger brother wrestling as a Kindergartner. I remember watching and then getting so excited. I asked my Mom, " Do you think I could wrestle?" She immediately said, "if you want too". I started the next week with being the only girl. The boys would flee from being my partner. My first few years were filled with loss after loss, bloody noses, bruises and black eyes but I never quit! Then my 6th grade year, I made it to State and I got to wrestle my first girl. I beat her in the first round and won state. It felt amazing! I did the same thing the following year but I had a bigger bracket. I won State that year too . The following year I wanted a challenge to feel like I pushed myself even harder. I weighed in at 104lbs and wrestled the 132lbs weight bracket. I got into the Championship round and I had the match, until, a last second reversal, putting me 1 point behind my opponent. I was proud of myself but I left that year already talking about coming back for my Championship.
This year as a Junior I wrestled 4 matches. I was 3-1 with my one lost match being an exhibition match. I won my last Match in Lake City after being down by 1 with 15 seconds left on the clock and a broken hand (I discovered after). I was on the bottom and I knew I had to give it everything I had to get out from under the boy from Lake City. I did just that, I pushed my broken hand into the floor and reversed out. Scoring 2 points to put in the lead and the BUZZZER went off. This was my Season ending injury but I never quit. I kept showing up to practice riding the bike, talking with younger teammates and attending matches. Unfortunately, my break was too bad to get back this season. When the year was over I knew I wouldn't be satisfied with only one more year of wrestling. I pt'd my broken hand and am training in track now. I am going to practice with the Summit Wrestling Team this Summer because I want to continue to grow as a Wrestler.
