Ahlexa Montalvo (...Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my profile! My name is Ahlexa Montalvo and I am from Bloomfield. I started wrestling in 8th grade, however it was not out of interest. Instead, I was opposed to wrestling with so many boys because of the feeling of discomfort. However, my mom forced me to start going to recreational wrestling practices. At first, I didn't feel very comfortable with the moves and the rules of wrestling because previously all I had done that compared to wrestling was jujitsu. Throughout the time I was wrestling in rec, I was only wrestling with one other girl. When the season came around, I was too heavy to wrestle because a boy who was the same weight as me had more experience and, at the time, I didn't know much except a couple of takedowns. Not only did I feel that I was being left out, but I also felt that the weight I was at wasn't enough to get the opportunity to wrestle. So, to be able to wrestle, I chose to start losing weight. Since that time, I lost about 15 pounds. I have learned that wrestling can really affect your life athletically along with being able to find lifetime friends. I have improved so much since my first time wrestling and made it to states as a freshman with just the basics and the hope to be able to make it far. Like many athletes, I have struggled with confidence and self-love. But if I had to compare myself from 8th grade to now, I couldn't be anymore happier. I really am proud to say that I couldn't love any other sport more than wrestling. I want to be able to grow, to have matches to make me stronger and help me learn, and to have a great team by my side as I continue to try and embrace the sport of wrestling. I can't say I'm different from most athletes but I can promise my hard work, determination, and heart can speak for itself. I hope to join/be invited to a team that will help me love wrestling even more and I can't wait to start my journey into the collegiate world.
