My name is Morgan Gilley and this is currently my second year of wrestling. I am currently a captain on the high school girls team. First starting out I was a sophomore on a team of 5, I picked up the sport quite quickly despite the wide variety of different weight classes on the girls team with none of the girls close to the same weight class. As of now in my junior, I as well as my other captains have built the team to 11 people this year aspiring to bring more than 2 people to state this year. Also, I’m going to be doing freestyle this coming up March hoping to get more experience before college. Academically, I am enrolled in AP and honors classes and a medical class keeping my grades if not A’s then high B’s. I also do high school soccer for more of a hobby. I am invested, determined, and motivated to further my wrestling career. I have not only been inspired by the girls around me who have made it to college wrestling but those who told me I couldn’t wrestle because I was a girl. I will prove them wrong and show them that there is more to wrestling than just a gender and will make a name for myself to become a role model for others to help them fight the stereotypes and to pursue a sport that truly makes them happy.
