I started wrestling in 8th grade after being challenged by a friend to come out to a wrestling practice. I was strong, athletic, and had good endurance, so I thought that it could be the perfect sport for me. After my first time on the mat I was convinced that the wrestling room was where I wanted to spend my time.
I will be an asset to a college wrestling program because of my grit, never give up attitude, and my wrestling ability and success. Additionally, I excel in the classroom and take my academics very seriously. I have always been at the top of my class.
The wrestling goals that I have set for myself for the next three high school seasons are to place, and ultimately win, the California State Championships, along with other tournaments such as Fargo, Doc B Invitational, and Super 32. I also strive to be a mentor for other wrestlers as I have learned a tremendous amount not only from my coaches, but from my peers as well. My academic goals are to finish each school year at the top of my class and have a GPA of over 4.0.
My 9th grade high school accomplishments included winning the Los Angeles City Section and qualifying and competing in the California State Championships. Some of my other accomplishments include placing at tough tournaments such as Blackwatch and West Coast Classic.
My 10th grade high school season was shortened because of COVID-19 and the local restrictions/shutdowns in Los Angeles County. However, we were able to eventually have an abbreviated season. I competed in 9 matches and pinned all 9 of my opponents. There was no individual City or State tournament in California but I did lead my team to a second place finish in the LA City Dual Match Tournament.
I look forward to continue this recruiting process and ultimately wrestling in college.
