My current high school, Seymour High School, does not offer wrestling as one of the team sports. This was obviously an obstacle that I needed to overcome and resolve at the start of my high school athletic career. I have been able to represent Seymour as a one man team, but I train with a different high school. I thought that being a one man team would be my biggest hurdle to overcome in my high school career, but I was certainly proven wrong.
In my freshman year I finished 6th place in states at 132 pounds. I finished 4th during my sophomore year at 152 pounds. After seeing the growth I was able to make during my first two years of high school , I was determined to win states in my junior year. I was hungrier than ever for that state banner and was determined to put in the work to earn it.
Then the pandemic hit. The timing and school shut-downs completely took my junior season away from me. I took my frustration to the gym and worked out two times a day. I currently weigh 182 lbs and I am stronger and feel better than I’ve ever had before. Although my high school season was not able to occur as planned, I began wrestling with my club and was still able to compete in several tournaments. I went to a couple Pennsylvania tournaments to get back on the mat finally after a year of wrestling was taken away from me and went to New Englands and Spartan Nationals winning some matches over there.
I want to carry this hard work and determination into my collegiate career. I do not believe that wrestling is only a five month season. I train year round to better myself. My experiences have shown me how important wrestling is to me. I am looking forward to finding a college that interests me and having the chance to wrestle as a team and have the opportunity to step on the mat for a couple more years.
I hope to continue to achieve my goals in wrestling and on life moving forward. My athletics are only one part of my goals. I want to find the best fit college for myself. I want to study criminal justice and fulfill my dream of becoming a police officer. I am looking for a college that fits in for me and has everything that I am looking for, Doesn’t matter the location or size.
