For three years straight I trained every day, never taking a day off. Each day I worked to get stronger and develop in my sport. For me during this time, it was Football. I loved football and developed a passion for weightlifting as well. I have always been a team player. I feel as a team player this helps make a team stronger.
Well during my junior year I have made a life changing decision for myself. The summer before my junior year during football practice one of the football coaches had the team doing wresting drills. My coach told me later that I needed to join the wrestling team. He felt I had the potential to go far in that sport. I had to be honest with myself, I enjoyed wrestling more than football and I knew I would never have the size for football in a D1 school. With wrestling I could go down to my natural size and develop in this sport.
My dedication to being a dedicated athlete has not changed, just the sport. I was all set for my junior year of wrestling. My coach felt I would make it to state. We were ready for the season to start, and I had an injury that took me out before it began. I was finally cleared to have full contact right as the season ended.
I have been training hard and cutting my weight to get to the weight I should be to wrestle and working with top coaches to make sure that my senior year I win state. Each morning I get up weightlift and then start my day. I am a wrestler, and I will do everything I need to do to be the best wrestler possible.
I have wrestled with those that have won state in their weight division and were state qualifiers. I have done this through my journey of losing weight and recovering from my injury. It has been a hard journey. No one likes to lose but if I want to be the best, I have to wrestle the best. They have been the ones I have wrestled during my weight loss journey. I know with my hard work and dedication I will be going to state my senior year. My goal is to win at 170lbs.
This is my time to show that with all my sacrifices to be a champion, it was worth every bit of sacrifice I made. This is the one sport that you are the only one that can make you or keep you from success.
I hope that as a coach you will see that with an athlete like myself, I will always give you as I do myself 100% dedication and be an asset to your wrestling program.
